I’m a general practitioner. Originally from South Africa, I moved from Cape Town to Mauritius in June 2018, and have decided to join the CARE Team, here at Le Domaine de Labourdonnais.
After receiving my MBChB degree with distinction from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2008, I completed my mandatory post-graduation training through the South African Military Health Service. I then went on to work in emergency medicine, while studying towards a Masters’ degree in Lifestyle Medicine through Southern Cross University, Australia.
For the last 5 years, I have been working in a private practice in Cape Town, where I was responsible for the well-being of about 15 000 patients, ranging from newborns to 103-year-olds. I am particularly passionate about helping people control chronic medical problems like diabetes and high blood pressure, through a change in their lifestyle as opposed to medication where possible. I also have a deep knowledge of nutrition science, specific to weight loss and diabetes management, which has helped me co-author Banting 2.0 – Real Meal Revolution.
Outside work, I like spending time with my husband. We both love dance-fitness, especially Zumba, and have even performed in the Cape Town Carnival for a number of years. I’m also a licensed Zumba instructor – if I’m not at work, you’ll most likely find me dancing at the gym!
